<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reciprocating type compressor allowing replacement of a seal member in proper timing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This reciprocating type compressor has a cylinder 7, a crankcase installed on the base end side of the cylinder 7 and arranging a crank chamber having a crank mechanism inside, a piston 14 reciprocating in the cylinder 7 and defining a compression space 19 in the cylinder 7, the annular seal member 21 arranged on the outer peripheral side of the piston 14 and sealing a part between the piston 14 and the cylinder 7, and has a communicating passage 27 for connecting the compression space 19 with the crank chamber 2 when an abrasion quantity of the seal member 21 reaches a predetermined quantity.
