<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve assemblability in a hydraulic shock absorber. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In this hydraulic shock absorber 10, a spring receiver 32 is supported so as not to be relatively rotatable with respect to an axle bracket 15, and is divided into a spring receiver base portion 111 having an outer diameter smaller than the inner periphery of an axle side tube 12, and a spring receiver cylindrical portion 112 inserted into the inner periphery of the axle side tube 12 and for seating a suspension spring 33 thereon. A lower end engagement portion 112A provided at a lower end of the spring receiver cylindrical portion 112 is seated on an upper end engagement portion 111A provided at an upper end of the spring receiver base portion 111, so that the spring receiver cylindrical portion 112 is coaxially set to the axle side tube 12.
