<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder in which substantially no liquid remains on a discharge surface of a recording head. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the ink discharge head 2a is wiped with a wiper blade 101, ink easily remains near the position X2 where the wiper blade 101 separates from the ink discharge surface 2a. Therefore, after the wiper blade 101 is separated from the ink discharge surface 2a, an absorption roller 106 is passed through the position X2, maintaining the contact of the roller 106 with the ink discharge surface 2a and rotating the roller 106 about the axial center thereof, thereby allowing the remaining ink to be absorbed by the roller 106.
