<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a process and to mitigate spring-back in a method of attaching a stator coil which is radially expanded after inserting a distributed-wound cage stator coil into the stator core. <P>SOLUTION: A tapered cage coil 100 is prepared, having a small-diameter top coil end 101 and a large-diameter base coil end 102. The tapered cage coil 100 is axially inserted into a stator core 2. Then, the tapered cage coil 100 is radially expanded to thrust slot-accommodated portions 11 of the coil into slots 20 of the stator core 2. This can eliminate the necessity of deforming the base coil end 102 to thereby facilitate the manufacturing procedures.
