<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiving device and viterbi decoding method, which are capable of raising an error correcting capability even in an environment where a receiving property is deteriorated significantly. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An ACS (add compare select) operation unit 33 computes a trellis diagram based on data which is output with a soft decision by a receiving data soft decision unit 30 and retains path information in the trellis diagram in a path memory unit 34. When QoS information is included in a receiving signal, a traceback processing unit 35 carries out traceback processing with respect to a plurality of paths in the trellis diagram operated by the ACS operation unit 33, and when no QoS information is included in the receiving signal, the traceback processing is carried out in accordance with a CQI value obtained in a CQI value operating unit, thereby the number of paths in the trellis diagram is controlled and the traceback processing is carried out with respect to the paths under control.
