<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new electron transporting material having good heat resistance and being capable of providing high thermal characteristics of a device, and to provide an organic light-emitting device therewith. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A phenanthroline derivative represented by a chemical formula 1 is used as the electron transporting material to form the organic light-emitting device. In the chemical formula 1: R<SB>1</SB>to R<SB>16</SB>are each selected from hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, alkynyl, aralkyl, aralkenyl, aralkynyl, aryl, cycloaryl, halogen, haloalkyl, haloalkenyl, haloalkynyl, haloaryl, heterocycle, alkoxy, aryloxy, hydroxyl, amino, alkylamino, arylamino, cyano, nitro, alkylthio, arylthio, aldehyde, carbonyl, carboxyl, ester, carbamoyl, silyl, and siloxanyl groups and may be the same or different; the position of the substituent R<SB>6</SB>or R<SB>7</SB>depends on the position of the linkage between the phenanthrolinyl group and the fluorenyl group; X represents a single bond between the phenanthrolinyl group and the fluorenyl group; n<SB>0</SB>and n<SB>1</SB>each independently represent an integer of 0 to 2; and n<SB>2</SB>and n<SB>3</SB>each represent the number of the substituents and each independently represent an integer of 1 to 4.
