The method involves carrying out the control of a recuperation moment with excess of a limiting value for the charging condition of energy storage (24) and with the availability of the braking torque requirement. An electrical machine (14) with initiation of the braking torque requirement is dynamically operated for applying a part of the requested braking torque in a phase. A regenerative torque of the electrical machine is reduced in another phase. An independent claim is included for a hybrid drive unit with a drive source, particularly an internal combustion engine.
