A core material for a sandwich panel is provided which enables the sandwich panel to have a desired outer shape and inner structure suitable for an intended use of the panel.  Also provided is a method of molding the core material for a sandwich panel. The core material for a sandwich panel is a core material (13) which is constituted of a thermoplastic resin and is to be interposed between two resinous skin material sheets (12).  The core material (13) is characterized by having a closed hollow part (28) inside in a desired position according to the intended use of the sandwich panel (10) and by being molded by positioning a parison (P) of a molten plasticated resin material between two split molds (50) and clamping the two split molds (50) so as to impart a desired outer shape and/or surface shape.  The core material is further characterized in that those surfaces of the molten parison (P) which are pressed respectively against the two split molds (50) form surfaces to be bonded to the corresponding resinous skin material sheets (12).
