<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus reducing the amount of recorded data by highly compressing a plurality of still pictures having high similarity like still pictures captured by consecutive photographing, without deteriorating image quality. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: a still picture extracting means (analysis section 110) for extracting a plurality of similar still pictures from a group of photographed still pictures; and a dividing means (CPU 104) for dividing the plurality of still pictures extracted by the still picture extraction means into a size applicable to motion picture compression, respectively. Furthermore, the imaging apparatus includes: a motion picture compressing means (motion picture compression processing section 112a) for compressing the plurality of still pictures divided by the dividing means; and a recording means (CPU 104, interface 113) for recording the plurality of still pictures compressed by the motion picture compressing means. The imaging apparatus includes: a decoding means (decoding processing section 112g) for decoding the plurality of still pictures recorded by the recording means; and a combining means (CPU 104) for combining the plurality of still pictures decoded by the decoding means.
