<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization conversion element which has a simple structure in which functions for polarization conversion are not variously separated, and has a high conversion efficiency with a reduced thickness. <P>SOLUTION: The polarization conversion element includes a transparent magnetic body 3 formed of a titania nanosheet having magnetic anisotropy in a direction vertical to each surface, which is provided between a wire grid polarizer 1 and a reflecting member 2, and a light incident part 5 which causes light to be incident on the transparent magnetic body, so that the incident light is emitted from an emitting surface of the wire grid polarizer to the outside as a linear polarized light. Various elements (a multiple light simultaneous polarization conversion element, multiple-light selective polarization conversion element, etc.) are manufactured by periodically disposing a plurality of transparent magnetic bodies differed in wavelength dependency in a pattern shape or changing the wire-to-wire period of the wire grid polarizer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
