<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens barrel with a barrier device, which is configured such that the size of a lens barrel is reduced by efficiently retracting barrier blades into a space between the barrier opening of a barrier cover and a lens barrel member, the size of the lens barrel is further reduced by reducing the number of barrier drive springs, and a mechanism is provided for preventing mechanical failure caused by contamination, such as sand, adhering to the barrier blades. <P>SOLUTION: The pair of barrier blades 14 are reduced in size such that the barrier blades 14 are aligned so that a photographing aperture 16a can be shielded with the barrier blades mutually closed. The pair of barrier blades 14 is jounaled by a barrier drive member 15, which revolves around an optical axis, to be freely rotatable around its own axis. The pair of barrier blades 14 is rotated around its own axis to mutually close. The pair of barrier blades 14 mutually closed are revolved integrally with the barrier driving member 15, thereby matching the attitude to the photographing aperture 16a.
