PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus reducing to the minimum an opportunity of generating operating noise caused by implementation of initialization, while saving on power. SOLUTION: When detecting a shift to a sleep mode (#1:YES), a sub control section starts a time measuring operation (#2) and when detecting a shift to a normal mode thereafter (#3:YES), the sub control section finishes the time measuring operation and transmits measured time information to a main control section (#5). When the main control section is activated and receives the transmitted information from the sub control section (#11, #12:YES), the main control section determines whether a measured time indicated in the information is equal to or more than a threshold value (#13), and if equal to or more than the threshold (#13:YES), the main control section makes each of sections of an image forming apparatus 1 to execute an initializing operation (#14), and if smaller than the threshold (#13:NO), the main control section does not carry out the processing in #14 but finishes a series of processing.
