PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To create and utilize facility information data suitable for individual preference, by fetching the facility information collected using the Internet, a digital camera or the like, to a navigation system. SOLUTION: This navigation system reads a facility data file, including the facility information from an external storage medium 21, and stores it in a facility data file storing means 15. At this time, a character string detecting means 14 detects a specific character string from the facility data file, a position information extracting means 13 refers to a facility position information database 12, based on the character string detected by the character string detecting means 14, specifies the facility and its position, and stores the position information in the facility data file storing means 15 in association with the facility data file. When a map image is displayed on a display means 17, an icon showing the facility associated with the position information stored in the facility data file storing means 15 is displayed; and when the icon is specified, the corresponding facility data is read from the facility data file storing means 15 and is displayed.
