<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately perform masking to a person of an image. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When image data is read, the masking of a substantially rectangular shape is performed in the eye parts of the person. Thus, the face of the person is not identified. In this case, the longitudinal length of the substantially rectangular shape for the mask processing is determined based on the position relation of the eyes extracted from the image data. The eye positions are changed when the face is turned sideways or the head is inclined, so that the direction of the face is obtained based on the position relation of the eyes. When the length of the substantially rectangular shape for the mask processing is determined based on the detected position relation of the eyes, threfore, the appropriate length of mask processing corresponding to the direction of the face is performed, and the image where the person is appropriately hidden is outputted thereby, with excellent quality without giving an unnatural impression.
