The method involves discarding a part of data of the permanent memory on a memory system in a network. The memory access is rerouted transparently to the memory system in the network, if the memory access is configured by the user. A part of the data of the permanent memory of the portable radio terminal is transferred to a central storage area. The part of the data is obtained by a network over a radio link. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a portable radio terminal; and (2) a memory system for managing a permanent memory of a portable radio terminal.
