PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheel bearing apparatus lightweight, low in cost and capable of preventing the delayed fracture of a root part. SOLUTION: The wheel bearing apparatus includes a wheel bearing 8 having an outer member 3 formed with a plurality of outer raceway surfaces 1, 2 on the inner peripheral side, an inner member 6 formed with a plurality of inner raceway surfaces 4, 5 on the outer peripheral side, and rolling elements 7 arranged between the outer raceway surfaces 1, 2 of the outer member and the facing inner raceway surfaces 4, 5 of the inner member 6. A stem part 12 of an outer joint member of a constant velocity universal joint 10 is fitted into the inner member 6 of the wheel bearing 8. The outer joint member includes a mouth part 13 into which an inner joint member is held, and the stem part 12 provided projecting from a bottom part of the mouth part 13. The stem part 12 is provided with a plastically deformable part 40 subjected to stress larger than stress generated to a stem root part 33 which is a corner part of the stem part 12 and mouth part 13. The plastically deformable part 40 allows the axial elongation of the stem part 12 with the generation of tensile force not less than predetermined axial force. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
