Provided is a method for a user to input a password by using a title of particular content including a corresponding letter based on a letter configuring a password to release lock or authenticate. A method for authenticating a user in a terminal comprises the following steps: a terminal receives a password to authenticate a user; a server determines a content title including a letter component on each of multiple letter components configuring the password; the server transmits a plurality of content titles including one of the letter components to the terminal; the terminal outputs a screen including the content titles in a user authenticating process; and the terminal performs user authentication based on an input order selecting the content tiles outputted on the screen.
