PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique holdscapable of quickly identifying a rotation position of a cam in a valve drive system of an internal combustion engine in which the cam rotated or rocked by a power engine independent of the internal combustion engine opens and closes the valve. SOLUTION: In the valve drive system of an internal combustion engine having the cam rotated or rocked by the power engine independent of the internal combustion engine, the power engine rotates n times per one rotation of the cam. A cam position sensor is configured to output signals of different patterns according to rotation ranges in which the cam rotates during one rotation of the power engine.
