<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely erase failure information to be erased according to rewriting of VIN (Vehicle Identification Information) in an ECU (Electronic Control Unit) storing VIN specific to a vehicle and a vehicle control system provided with the ECU. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the ECU receives a rewriting request of VIN (S140), the ECU stores information indicating a updating state (hereinafter referred to as updating state information) in a SRAM (Standby RAM) (S150), transmits the updating information to other ECU and makes the other ECU erase the failure information (S160), and erases its own the failure information (S190). When erasing of the failure information in all the ECUs is completed (S210:YES), the updating information is rewritten to information indicating "no request". If the updating state information is stored in the SRAM, even if erasing of the failure information is interrupted, erasing of the failure information is executed (S110:NO→S160, S190).
