<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arm device for tool change capable of (1) sufficiently enhancing the reliability of the locking function by introducing such a structured that a movable gripper is locked at an early stage to the working position separately as a help means particularly in order to lock the movable gripper certainly to the working position when the tool is to be changed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The arm device 4 for tool change includes: a first locking mechanism 60 to be engaged with the gripper 25 in the working position with possibility of disengagement for locking it 25 to the working position; and a second locking means to be engaged with an opening/closing rod 30 in the retracted position with possibility of disengagement for locking the movable gripper 25 to the working position as a help means through the rod 30 and an interlocking coupling mechanism 40 at an earlier stage than the first locking mechanism 60 being engaged with the movable gripper 25 in the working position when the rod 30 is switched from the protruding position to the retracted position.
