The method involves determining pressure according to a throttle flap (THR), and charge air pressure (CAP) depending on a respective calculating specification. An expression is integrated, where the expression has gas constant of air multiplied with a temperature in a volume multiplied with air mass flow balance of the volume and divided by an approximate value for a volume content of the volume. An independent claim is included for a device for determining pressure as a model value according to a throttle flap for a volume limited by throttle valve, recirculating air flap and compressor and charge air pressure as model value for a another volume, limited by compressor, recirculating air flap and cylinder of the internal combustion engine or charge air cooler.
