<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inverter device wherein a switching element (diode) is diagnosed before operation without establishing a diagnosis time. <P>SOLUTION: The inverter device includes: an inverter circuit having an upper arm switching element connected to the positive side of a direct-current power supply and a lower arm switching element connected to the negative side; a voltage detector that detects the output voltage of the inverter circuit; a control circuit that outputs a direct current from the inverter circuit to a motor before operation and thereby positions the magnet rotor of the motor; and a current detector that detects the current of the motor.
