PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly accurately measure an over-pin dimension, even when a specific stroke characteristic in the vicinity of a stroke central part is set smaller than stroke both end sides. SOLUTION: This rack bar includes a cylindrical part 21 and a rack tooth forming part 22 arranged in the cylindrical part 21 and juxtaposing a plurality of tooth parts 22a meshing with a pinion gear 13a in the axial direction. The tooth parts 22a of the rack took forming part 22 are formed so that the ratio of a rotation angle of the pinion gear 13a and a moving distance of the cylindrical part 21 is larger on the stroke both end sides Y in the axial direction C than the stroke central part X, and is formed so as to become gradually small for approaching stroke both ends Z.
