<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus which can correct a balance between a brightness signal and a color-difference signal after nonlinear conversion to a balance before the nonlinear conversion. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes a nonlinear conversion circuit comprising an automatic black level control circuit 1 for nonlinearly converting brightness information of a first brightness signal y in a three-primary-color signal generated from the first brightness signal y and a color-difference signal b-y and r-y, a brightness adjustment circuit 4, and a gamma correction circuit. The image processing apparatus is also equipped with a color-difference signal correction signal 10 for correcting a color difference signal (b-y)<SB>ct</SB>, (r-y)<SB>ct</SB>, (g-y)<SB>ct</SB>based on the brightness of the first brightness signal y before nonlinear conversion by the nonlinear conversion circuit and the brightness of a second brightness signal y' generated from a three-primary-color signal r', b', g' after nonlinear conversion by the nonlinear conversion circuit.
