<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure airtightness between a panel and a lower guide rail in a sliding shutter in which the nonconnection side stiles of a large number of shutter units each of which is formed by hinge-connection of a pair of panels with a same width are suspended. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the shutter unit 2 is closed, the lifting frame 5 of each panel 21 is lowered by a lifting mechanism 6, and a sealing beat 51 at the bottom end thereof is brought into contact with a lower guide rail 12 to secure airtightness. The lifting mechanism 6 lowers a lifting frame 5 which has working projections 62 biased from end caps 7 at both ends of a housing 4 outward, respectively, which releases a plate spring 66 between the working projections by pressing the working projections 62, and which is held on the plate spring by engagement support devices 67 disposed at two positions in the longitudinal direction, and rises a lifting frame 5 by releasing the pressing. When the shutter unit 2 is closed, the lifting mechanism is pressed by the stiles 23 and the vertical frame of the adjacent panels 21 and operated.
