<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt type continuously variable transmission for suppressing the inclination of a movable pulley half to suppress an increase of power loss by attaining the distribution equalization of thrust on the movable pulley half while increasing the pressure receiving area of the movable pulley half. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A hydraulic driving means A includes a first piston P<SB>1</SB>fitted between a cylinder portion 2c and a boss portion 2b of the movable pulley half 2 and engaged at its back face with the front end of an inner cylinder portion of a pulley cover C, a first oil chamber c<SB>1</SB>defined between the front face of the first piston p<SB>1</SB>and the back face of the movable pulley half 2, a second piston p<SB>2</SB>slidably fitted at its outer periphery portion to the inner cylinder portion Ci and connected at its inner periphery portion to the boss portion 2b, a second oil chamber c<SB>2</SB>defined between the back face of the second piston p<SB>2</SB>and the pulley cover C, a third piston p<SB>3</SB>slidably fitted between inner and outer periphery portions Ci, Co and engaged at its front face to the front end of the cylinder portion 2c, and a third oil chamber c<SB>3</SB>defined between the back face of the third piston p<SB>3</SB>and the pulley cover C.
