<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adaptive equalizer and an adaptive equalization method that can stably determine convergence degree even when signal is momentarily changing in power and spectrum like audio or even when noise exists, and to provide a recording medium. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The adaptive equalizer is used for communication equipment, an audio signal processing apparatus etc., and includes a transfer function estimating means of estimating a transfer function to be equalized, a filter means of performing equalization processing, a filter coefficient updating means of updating the filter coefficient of the filter means based upon the estimation result of the transfer function estimating means, a filter coefficient power arithmetic means of calculating the sum of coefficient electric powers having an arbitrary specified number of filer coefficients in a filter coefficient group of the filter means or all the filter coefficients, and a convergence degree determining means of determining the degree of convergence of the filter means based upon the arithmetic result of the filter coefficient power arithmetic means.
