<p>PURPOSE: A printer and printing system is provided to enable a system administrator to know that a cartridge supplied to a user is used in fact. CONSTITUTION: A printer comprises a data storage module(312), a mounting unit, and a cartridge controller(311). The printer comprises a calculating unit(309), a transmitting data generating unit(313), a transmitting unit(314), and a receiving unit(301). The data storage module stores information. The mounting unit mounts a cartridge storing printing materials. The cartridge controller reads the cartridge identification number from a memory arranged in the cartridge. The cartridge controller stores the cartridge identification number in the data storage module. The calculating unit calculates used amount value showing the amount of the used printing material and stores the used amount value in the data storage module. The transmitting unit transmits status information to a data processing unit(220,230).</p> |
