PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogenation catalyst with an organic polymer as the carrier, with which a compound such as levulinic acid can be converted into a predetermined compound with high selectivity and high conversion.SOLUTION: A catalyst which comprises particles of a metal selected from Pt and Ru carried on a carrier containing a boronic acid ester-type polymer represented by formula (1) and a polyalkyleneimine, a method with which a specified compound such as levulinic acid can be converted into a predetermined compound by hydrogenation using the catalyst with high selectivity and high conversion, and a method to produce a hydrogenation catalyst which comprises the organic polymer as the carrier and which exhibits the catalytic activity are disclosed (Z is one or more substituted/unsubstituted aromatic ring; n is a natural number).SELECTED DRAWING: None
