The device (9) has a perforated screening member e.g. curved screen, through which wastewater flows from a bottom side to a top side of the screening member. The screening member includes a set of side elevational shaped screening rods (14) arranged in a laterally spaced apart, mutually parallel relationship, where opposite free ends (15) of the rods are fixedly connected with a frame (8) such that solids in the wastewater are captured by the screening member. Each of the rods is configured with narrower portions at the opposite ends. The screening member is oriented horizontally.
