The sensor (1) has a transmitter (6) transmitting ultrasonic waves and a receiver (7) receiving the ultrasonic waves. An evaluation unit generates object detection signals depending on received signal on an output of the receiver. Sensor housing (2) has a housing body (3) with a lateral housing opening, which along with a housing cover (4) lockable as an integral part of the sensor housing. The transmitter, the receiver and a printed circuit board (8) with components of the evaluation unit are inserted through the housing opening in the housing body.
