A method of producing a decoupage article involves a sheet of material 22 having a backing layer and a decoupage lamina 28 attached to the backing sheet by means of a releasable adhesive. The sheet of material includes decoupage elements 14-19 whose outline shape is cut into the lamina 28 of the sheet 22 whilst the backing layer remains intact so that the elements may be peeled from the backing layer. The elements are permanently removed from the backing layer as they are not reattachable to the backing layer by means of the adhesive which initially held them together. A decoupage kit is also disclosed for producing a three-dimensional decoupage article, the kit including the sheet of material above together with spacers. To produce the 3-D decoupage article the decoupage elements are separated from the sheet and mounted in a desired sequence on a mounting member with one or more spacers between each decoupage element and an adjacent element and/or the mounting member.
