A transmission for a ground vehicle comprising an input shaft (36) coupled to a rotational power source (12) and an output shaft (109; 111) coupled to a load (13; 14). A first hydrostatic unit (40; 42) is coupled to a first gear (50; 52) and a second hydrostatic unit (44; 46) is selectively coupled to one of a first and a second clutch (94, 98; 96, 100), wherein the first clutch (94; 100) has a first clutch gear and second clutch (98; 96) has a second clutch gear. A first mode gear (102; 108) is selectively coupled to the first clutch gear and rotationally fixed to the output shaft (109; 111) and a second mode gear (106; 104) is selectively coupled to the second clutch gear and rotationally fixed to the input shaft (36). A planetary gear set (58; 60) having a sun gear (66; 68) engaged with a plurality of planetary gears (72; 74), wherein the planetary gears (72; 74) are rotatably coupled to a planetary gear carrier (75; 77) and wherein the planetary gears (72; 74) are engaged with a ring gear (76; 78) that is coupled to the input shaft (36).
