Vehicle auxiliary device comprising multiple cameras and ultrasonic transducers on the front and rear of the vehicle

An auxiliary device for a vehicle has multiple front video cameras 31 and ultrasonic transducers 21, multiple rear video cameras 32 and ultrasonic transducers 22, at least one front roadway video camera 33, a controller 10, an input terminal for a vehicle speed detector 14, an input terminal for a vehicle gear detector 15 and at least one display 30. The controller 10 is electronically connected to all the devices and from electronic signals received from the ultrasonic transducers 21, 22 can compute distances between the transducers 21, 22 and detected obstacles. The display 30 illustrates images captured by the video cameras 31, 32, 33. The auxiliary device may also comprise a buzzer/speaker alarm 41, a touch panel 42 integrated in the display 30 and vehicle speed and gear detectors 14, 15. Preferably, text information representing the distances to detected obstacles is superimposed on the images illustrated on the display 30. Vehicle speed and gear shifting conditions may be used to control the operation of the device, with the front transducers 21 and images being operated if the vehicle is stopped or traveling slowly in forward gear and the rear transducers 22 and images being operated when the vehicle is in reverse gear. The auxiliary device improves blind spot vision and the front roadway camera 33 allows the driver to avoid potholes and protrusions in the road.
