PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing Lactobacillus brevis HY7401 is provided to suppress the activation of myeloperoxidase and generation of nitric oxide, prevent and treat colitis. CONSTITUTION: A Lactobacillus brevis HY7401 has an efficiency of treating and preventing colitis. A method for isolating Lactobacillus brevis HY7401 comprises: a step of culturing MRS liquid medium containing 0.02% of sodium azide then culturing at 37°C for 24 hours; a step of smearing culture medium on agar plate containing 0.02% of sodium azide then culturing at 37°C for 48 hours; and a step of isolating strain with high acetaldehyde lyase activity.
