This is applied directly to the surface of the wheel. #CMT# : #/CMT# Independent claims are included for: (A) a method for producing shiny coatings on aluminum alloy or steel surfaces comprising:(1) gas phase deposition of aluminum or aluminum alloy to from a sealed, shiny coating; and (b) electrochemical oxidation of the coating to produce a nano- to microporous second layer of aluminum oxide with a thickness of 50 - 1000 nm; and (B) car wheels made from aluminum alloys or steel with a shiny coating as described. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Shiny coatings for car wheels made from light metal alloys or steel. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# Surfaces which cannot easily be anodized to produce a shine can be coated and soiling of the coated wheels is reduced. #CMT#METALLURGY : #/CMT# Preferred features: The aluminum or aluminum alloy coating is produced by a CVD or PVD process. A second nano- to microporous oxide layer is applied over it. This has a thickness of 50 - 1000 nm. A third layer of clear lacquer or easy-to-clean lacquer is applied over the second layer. The wheel is made from an Al alloy containing 3 - 12wt% of Si. The CVD process is a cold gas process in which aluminum surfaces have a temperature of 280 - 350[deg] C and steel surfaces a temperature of 280 - 580[deg] C. #CMT#POLYMERS : #/CMT# Preferred materials: The third layer comprises a silane, silazane and/or silicone polymer. It preferably contains perhydrosilazane polymers, hydrophilic copolymers and/or additives and titanium oxide.</p>
