Adjusting reflectors from a distance. - In a vehicle electric lamp in which a pivoted reflector is actuated by means of an electromagnet or solenoid, a contact device is adapted to bring a supplementary winding or resistance into action at or near the end of the operation of the main winding so that the reflector can be held in the tilted position by means of a reduced current. In the form shown, an electromagnet c is provided with a low resistance main winding in series with a high resistance supplementary winding, the latter normally being short-circuited by means of contacts f, g secured to its ends. When the current is switched on the low resistance winding is energized and the reflector a is tilted by the plunger h. When the plunger approaches or reaches the end of its stroke a lateral projection p on the plunger engages a spring blade carrying the contact g and separates it from the contact f, the reflector being held in the tilted position by means of a helical spring l and the contact g closes on the contact f. One end of the spring is attached to an abutment o which is attached to the reflector and co-operates with the outer end of the plunger, whilst the other end is attached to a bracket m carrying the electromagnet and attached to the interior of the lamp casing behind the reflector. The lower end of the plunger slides in a guide q and is supported by an adjustable end stop r, a fuse k being provided for protecting the windings of the electromagnet. |
