PURPOSE: A sequence number wrap-around apparatus and method, and an article for the same are provided to reduce a space of metadata consumed by the sequence numbers by setting the value with small values which is sufficient for wrap-around when the sequence numbers reach the maximum values. CONSTITUTION: A memory controller(112) controls the read, record, and erase of contents of a nonvolatile memory. When the data are recorded in the sub unit, the memory controller records the sequence number value to the metadata of each sub unit of the block. When new subunit is recorded, the memory controller increases the sequence number value. After the sequence number reaches the maximum value, the number is wrapped around the minimum value.
