<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control device capable of preventing the occurrence of ratcheting when an engine stall is caused. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This vehicle control device has a transmission 12 capable of switching a shift range by engagement of a frictional engagement element, and a parking lock mechanism 17 for switching a lock state of locking an output shaft of the transmission 12 and an unlocking state of releasing the lock state by hydraulic pressure, and electrically maintains the unlocking state, and has an engine speed sensor 61 for detecting an engine speed of an engine 11. The parking lock mechanism 17 electrically maintains the unlocking state, and when determined as the engine stall by an ENG-ECU1 based on the engine speed, a power source ECU4 prohibits cranking.
