<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document reader that reads a document on which a necessary area is predetermined by a user, automatically extracts document image data in the predetermined area from document image data of the read document, and records the data in an electronic file. <P>SOLUTION: The document reader (1) detects area lines M1 and M2, and extracts document image data corresponding to photographs 51a and 51b in the area predetermined by the detected area lines M1 and M2.
