A diagnostic device (165) for a washing appliance (100), and associated apparatus and method are provided. A control unit (160) is in communication with at least one operational component (80) of the washing appliance (100) and with at least one control switch device (90). The control unit is responsive to the at least one control switch device (90) to control the at least one operational component (80). The control unit (160) is further configured to monitor the at least one operational component (80) so as to identify a failure thereof, and to provide an indicia of the failure. A panel member (300) is associated with the control unit (160), and includes an indicia (304) of the at least one operational component (8Q). The at least one operational component indicia (304) is configured to cooperate with the corresponding failure indicia so as to provide a perceptible identification of the at least one operational component (80) experiencing the failure.
