<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid wire as a welding wire that can reduce production of spatters during arc welding and that has excellent weldability, and also to provide the manufacturing method of the solid wire. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The solid wire 1 is composed of element wires 1a, 1b made of steel alloy, is provided with an alkaline metal impregnated part 3 in which two or more kinds of alkaline metals are impregnated near the surface of the element wires, and is characterized in that the total concentration of the alkaline metals in the alkaline metal impregnated part 3 is ≥1.5 mass ppm relative to the total mass of the solid wire 1. Also, the manufacturing method of the solid wire 1 includes an element wire making process, a coating process, an annealing process and a wire drawing process, wherein the melting point of the mixture of the alkaline metal carbonate in the coating process is below the annealing temperature in the annealing process.
