<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for transmissively reading out holograms from an optical medium, in particular an optically addressable spatial light modulation device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A device 1 transmissively reads out holograms generated by writing light in an optical medium 2, in particular holograms generated in an optically addressable spatial light modulation device. For this purpose, the device 1 comprises an illumination device 3 for emitting light and an optical system 6 for directing the light from the illumination device 3 onto the optical medium 2.
