<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of improving the operability of a user and accurately reading an original with a simple configuration even when the original having recesses and projections such as a binding part is mounted obliquely to a read direction. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image reader having original platen glass 1 where the original 3 is mounted, and a movable scanner unit 2 for scanning the mounted original 3 and reading the image information of the original includes: a height sensor part 4 which is movable together with the scanner unit 2 and measures the height from the original platen glass 1 of the mounted original 3; a shape estimation part for obtaining a floating area floating from the original platen glass 1 of the mounted original 3 on the basis of the read image information and the measured height of the original 3; and an inclination angle correction part for correcting an area excluding the floating area.
