<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device and a control method for an elevator, preventing deterioration in convenience of the elevator, when occurring "on-failure" in a car destination button or a landing call button. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The control device of an elevator comprises: an elevator control panel controlling overall operation of the elevator; a car disposed to be capable of elevating in a hoistway; a car destination button disposed in the car; a landing call button disposed to a landing; a button failure detecting means detecting occurrence of the on-failure in any of the buttons; and an elevator monitoring means outputting a service cut-off request signal to the elevator control panel when the button failure detecting means detects the occurrence of the on-failure in any of the buttons. When receiving the service cut-off request signal, the elevator control panel does not perform call registration corresponding to the button in which the failure occurs.
