<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide coated seeds easily absorbing water on sowing, easily forming cracks in a coated layer by the absorption of water, further without having a problem of becoming as hardly forming the cracks by the passage of time and having a hardness capable of sufficiently resisting to handling or transportation, and a method for producing the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The coated seeds are characterized by consisting of the seeds and a coating layer covering them, wherein, the coating layer includes an outer layer making a contact with an outer environment and an inner layer installed between the outer layer and the seeds, the inner layer and outer layer each comprise an inorganic substance expanding by the absorption of water and a binder, the inorganic substance forming the outer layer includes a larger water absorption rate than that of the inorganic substance forming the inner layer, and the hardness of the outer layer is higher than that of the inner layer, and the method for producing the same is also provided.
