PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of finely controlling tension generated when a medium is carried between a first motor and a second motor, and a printing method. SOLUTION: The printer comprises the first motor giving driving force for rotating a rolling body around which the medium is wound; a second motor giving the driving force for driving a carrying drive roller which is provided in a supplying direction of the medium on a downstream side to the rolling body and carries the medium; and a control portion controlling the first motor to make the tension generated in the medium between the rolling body and the carrying drive roller become not more than a predetermined value, when the first motor and the second motor are driven together to carry the medium.
