PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bearing, capable of reducing wear under hard foreign matter-mixed lubrication as one embodiment of wear in the bearing. SOLUTION: The axial intermediate part of at least a shaft base material 8 of a shaft 8M is hardened through heat treatment, and a hard coating 12 is applied to the rolling surface, of at least any one among the shaft base material 8, an outer ring 9 and a rolling element 10. A value of the fracture toughness of the hard coating is set such that it is≥1.5 MPam<SP>1/2</SP>and≤6 MPam<SP>1/2</SP>. Since the lower limit value of the fracture toughness value is set to 1.5 MPam<SP>1/2</SP>, the formed hard coating 12 can withstand repeated loadings. Since the upper limit value of the fracture toughness value is set to 6 MPam<SP>1/2</SP>, the hard coating 12 obtains the time until blending with a lubricating oil, until the hard coating exhibits wear resistance.
