PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sustained-release composition that does not cause abnormal response at an administration site and maintains persistent activity of the contained bioactive protein or peptide when a predetermined amount of a bioactive protein or peptide is administered. SOLUTION: The bioactive protein-containing nanoparticle composition comprises a bioactive protein or peptide, a water-soluble carbonate, a water-soluble phosphate and a water-soluble zinc salt with one another to form nanoparticle precipitates. The water-soluble zinc salt is added such that the compositional ratio of bioactive protein: the water-soluble zinc salt in a weight ratio is in the range of 1:0.2-1:3.5.
