<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive fuel cell satisfying the performance requirement of an edge seal member, and to provide its edge seal member. <P>SOLUTION: Edge seal members 10a, 10b, 10c, 10d are arranged so that each gas does not leak to a counter electrode in extension parts parallel to gas passages of porous carbon plates 40a, 40b, 40c, 40d.
